I don’t think vehicles like this are sold in numbers that are sufficient to play a significant role in damaging the environment.

Gas taxes are paid every time gas is purchased.

For 1. - It may not be fun in the same way as a light sports car, but there is something fun about smashing the gas on a big-ass SUV with a ton of power. It’s silly, but it’s fun for your average driver.

I’m all for screwing over rich people, but this is a boat. Sorry.  If you need to change the definition of a boat to close this loophole by coming up with something like must leave it’s dock five days out of thirty or something, go for it. Sounds fair. Watch out for the class of one lawsuit though.

Whether it is a boat or a “structure”, it is not real estate, and should not be taxed as such.

In all honesty, why?

First of all, that thing is awesome. If I lived in Miami, that’s exactly what I’d like to have. There are plenty of safe harbors and inlets to hide in for the next time they get hit with a whopper storm that at least gives the structure a chance.

Honestly, I was ready for this to be wayyy less boat-like than it is.

Why does buying a car mean that you’re trying to impress people?

The big problem is that when he placed the order a year ago, nobody thought shithead dealers would do this so he didn’t even think to get a signed purchase agreement. Now I would get a notarized and signed purchase agreement clearly stating the price.
