You are the first person I've ever seen who quoted Spindle's End. I am glad I'm not the only one who loves it. I mean, the plot is pretty cool, but the worldbuilding.....I love love love this book.

Some animals are JUST TOO BIG to be kept in captivity.

John Schmitt, a hotel night auditor in Indianapolis,

Awww, we love you too Lindy!

I think Jesus taught that class. Unfortunately many of his "followers" have reading comprehension problems.

Well, it doesn't outright, actually. Most atheists I know, myself included, are more along the lines of "Well, no, we can't 100% perfectly prove that there's no such thing as god. But we can't 100% prove that there aren't a lot of things, such as leprechauns, fairies or invisible teapots orbiting the earth. But there

I think being religious without being a dick IS the norm - most religious people I know are normal, reasonably kind people. I think the same thing about most atheists I know. It's just that both groups have a subset of people who are dicks, and both could use an article letting them know how to not be like that :)

I think a lot of people (both religious and atheist) find it hard to grasp this concept of an atheist who isn't making some sort of statement and isn't actively rejecting something. Not believing in something isn't necessarily a political statement, especially if you've been raised in a very secular environment. In

: ( That totally sucks. I hope your boyfriend eventually learns that sex can be great without orgasm and realizes that you can have loving, intimate, fun sex without an arbitrary (and overrated) goalpost.

This.

In my experience guys SO want you to have an orgasm and simply don't believe it when you say "I really don't care about this and it really, really doesn't matter to me". Plus in the rare cases when they are OK with it they still want to be able to make you come. At that point - having constant discussion and analysis

YES. It's taken me several years to explain this to my spouse (who's wonderful and I love him). I still don't think he quite gets it ... he still thinks my having multiple orgasms should be his ultimate goal ... but at least he doesn't argue with me (as much) when I tell him I'm perfectly happy having sex that

I agree with the theory behind this, HOWEVER...

I actually totally agree with everything you said. Even though I have heard her acknowledge it in interviews, I doubt she actually "gets" it ... in the way that most privileged people don't. KWIM?

I went to a top 3 Ivy, and I am decidedly not well connected. I'm sick of the assumption that because of where I went to school my career trajectory is all peaches and rosebuds. I came from average middle class stock, no connections, lots of hard work, and I'll be lucky if I can get my kids the comforts I had growing

Look at the Manson cover. Notice what's missing?

That elephant looks so genuinely happy and delighted. I aspire to have friends like that.

I am 15 weeks pregnant with my first, and I am now in TEARS. Thanks, Cornwell. Thanks a lot.

This is a nice Exhibit A for the ugly baby article. We get to witness the transformation from ugly newborn to adorable child.
