We don't learn anything else than cursive in France, it's not like "we had to", it's the only way I know how to write.
Isn't there a State in the US where they want to learn kids to type and not to write ?
Also, in France we learn cursive, I don't think that's the case in the US ?

Fences hides most of the icons on the desktop (which, really, is a mess) and I use many keyboard shortcuts.
And the taskbar is just hidden, when I move my mouse at the bottom it'll appear just where MusicBee is.
In fact those stats are included inside the analog clock (not the fan gauges though) :/
I use them to know when something is done rendering, I have two computers, and this screen is on the wall a few meters behind me, this way it acts as decoration (painting) and heavy workstation/gaming rig. The meters let me know…
The numeric clock in the upper right corner disappear when the desktop is not in use, just like the icons, so what's left when it's just idling is just the analog clock better for reading the hour from a distance. I set it up that way because I often leave the screen on. (in fact using it as painting on my wall...)

Bad designs exist too.
Sometimes something is just flawed, and it has happened many time in the past, a product badly designed for its purpose that has been reshaped later.
I think sound&color is a matter of taste, you should test the headphones you want before buying them, if possible compare them quickly with the same track that you know well.

1. No there's no real difference between the 558 and 598, same plastic, same drivers, just different foam
2. You can use them with onboard sound yes, but as they are rated for 50 ohms, they will benefit from having an amp (you can use them without it though)
3. I don't own a console sorry, can't tell you :(
