This, precisely. Liberals love Latinos and Muslims even though, they are both, as large demographic populations, very, very socially conservative. I have worked in a private Islamic school (four years) and a charter school that’s 99% Hispanic population (three years) - guess, what the prevailing opinion on gays and

And yet there is still no mention of Muslim men’s modesty. The dishdasha, the kameez, and the thobe are all meant to cover men in the same way, and for the same reasons, that the burqa covers women. This is so clearly benevolent sexism that if you can’t see it you’re fucking blind.

You’re exactly right. People don’t to acwant knolwedge that so they can seem progressive. But the truth is that that “piece of clothing” is OBVIOUSLY tied to more than not wanting to get sun — it’s a symbol for a belief that women should be covered. I would never want that to become popular or dominant anywhere.

I find that slippery slope argument a bit absurd, but I also don’t have a good answer to it. No, it does not extend to freedom from looking at religious people in public, and that’s not what I’m asking for. My argument has nothing to do with what I want or what I experience, it has to do with the ability of a country

Women in catholicism are not shamed or pressured into covering up, for one. They are two totally different things. But I DO find the idea of “modesty” for women to be extremely offensive in any religion. Women have fought against this for centuries in other parts of the world and eventually were allowed, through women

Well according to many people who believe in Islam, women’s bodies should be policed. As many other religions believe too.

Fuuuuuuuuck that. Yeah, a lot of people have died in foreign wars at the behest of this country, but none of those wars had to do with your “freedom.” They had to do with global politics and hegemony. The Swiss share all the “freedoms” that you do, without all the flag-humping jingoism.

That’s a numbers issue. There have to be some from Europe. But the numbers from Central and South America are so large that the media reports on them.

“Do it the legal way” is not a bullshit excuse. There are 7 billion people in the world, and a good percentage of them live in places that we would consider unsafe. Are you saying we should just let any and all of them into the U.S. If they want to come? I can tell you that Canada wouldn't open their arms to 11

Because we live in a patriarchy, and men and women are not on equal footing in any realm.

We have never backed fundamentalists in Iran. The Shah was secular.

That’s kinda bullshit since American women aren’t punished by the state and the church for non-compliance. So fuck your Muslim apologist bullshit.

Because obesity is an issue in the USA, Saudi shouldn’t be criticized for its outright oppression of women?

We can both celebrate these individual women and pity them for being part of a retrograde, patriarchal, shitty culture.

It saddens me when I see women covered up because they have been brainwashed into some false sense of modesty because of an ancient patriarchal religious fairy tale.

Or any name that a y, z or k replaces a letter. I hate that. Klarence, Jamyson, Sebaztian...etc...

Or Madison/Madyson/Maddesyn. Fucking horrid, all of them

god, I hated Dogville

Actually, people of ALL races are really bad at telling people from a race different than theirs apart. Black people are way worse at identifying white people and Asian people in photos, as opposed to identifying other black people.

If your criteria is “thirst quenching” and “flavorless,” why not just drink water?
