Seriously. They haven’t been tracking this for that long, some of those 157 women could be early in their first trimester. Saying fewer than 12 women is not at all informative. (I’m not saying it will be much worse, I just have issues with data that is so incomplete as to be misleading).

There is no “right” way for a woman to be pregnant. She doesn’t worry enough, she worries too much, she doesn’t take the right precautions, she’s ridiculous, etc.

I think it is because bugs can’t typically stand up to the pressure of the beauty norms in LA.

On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that 157 pregnant women in the United States and 122 in its territories (predominantly in Puerto Rico) had tested positive for the Zika Virus. Fewer than 12 of these women have had miscarriages or babies born with defects, according to Reuters.

“During her testimony, she became very emotional and cried. You could just see something different in her when she started talking about the rape and when it happened,” said Speaks.

I’m just gonna enjoy these today:

I doubt it. A lot of activism these days is social media activism. Which is to say, activism that doesn’t involve any actual effort. And that’s even for cases where people do care and can see how they’re directly affected.

My parents have been together for 35 years. My mom’s been chronically ill for the last 28 of them, and has recently begun showing signs of dementia (she is 66). My dad does e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g around the house and for her personal care, and doesn’t cope well. He doesn’t have a support system (his mother is the only

John Steinbeck:

When I read this line I just froze, my mind went completely blank.

It isn’t just elected officials though - people don’t want to pay the extra taxes to cover the cost of universal health. I live in the UK, I am a midwife for the NHS and I earn about £35000 a year. I take home about 2/3 of that after tax, national insurance and my pension contribution. It is a big chunk. I have grown

It is alarming the way some Americans are so oblivious to reality. To be fair they do start drilling it into us pretty young how America is the best, the freest, etc. But there is really no excuse to remain so oblivious with all the information so readily available to us with the internet and everything.

I just wanna say, as a Brit who has grown up under the NHS his whole life, my heart really aches for my many American friends who struggle with the way things are over there. I visit the states fairly frequently, and I got caught low on Asthma inhalers during a visit a few summers back. I started having really bad

“While Carolyn [had] told him in the past that she wanted to die, she [had] never asked him specifically to kill her.”

But guys. Just think of all the really terrible things that would happen if we had socialized medicine...

they must have felt absolutely helpless. FUCK the pharmaceutical industry. sadly, i can relate to this situation. i’ve struggled with a chronic illness that’s completely robbed me of my independence. my parents have been my caretakers for the last 3 years, and at only 26 years old with a bleak outlook and ungodly

“Solid coverage” is relative. I have a disabled spouse. I work for a fucking pharmaceutical company and have decent insurance. The co-pays for medication are still hefty. I can afford it, but it isn’t inconsequential. These things add up quickly.

Fifty years together.

If this story is true, there is nothing he can endure that is worse than what’s already happened. :/

This is one of the saddest stories I’ve ever read.
