I think the “forest for the trees” take away here is that this show has become rubbish. No one’s character arc quite makes sense anymore AND they all have the same, nearly interchangeable, arcs: loss, redemption, resolve, resistance, over and over again. The dialogue could be delivered by almost any of the characters…

I just can’t understand the constant nitpicking at last season’s finale. Could they have handled it in other ways, sure? But was it THE MOST EGREGIOUS THING IN THE WORLD that warranted a summer of angst...that continues even now??

Yes, but if this is a true expansion into a full novel, like The Children of Húrin, it will be worth every penny. That one went from the cliff notes version in the Silmarillion, to a full story.
