I take your point, but surely that long-standing tradition has a long-standing tradition of being used judiciously and even avoided when likely to be ambiguous.

Isn’t the point about the likely media response (i. e. giving more shits for black on white crime, than black on black crime)? I don’t think it’s an endorsement of the idea that the victims’ races matter.

Similarly... led for past participle of lead. So many writers now think it’s lead (a metal element). Just joining you in the corner as I too, am easily diverted from the main point, when confronted with grammar errors. It’s a failing, to be true.
