I knew there was a catch with the one for $45,000. If you read the vehicle history report, it says “air bag deployed,” which to me does not signify “minor” damage as listed in the report. That’s minimum $10-20k in damage on a $45k car. I’m borderline surprised Tavarish didn’t suggest something with a salvaged title

I’d buy one if it was like a 4Runner that would tow my boat. I know a Grand Cherokee would do the same thing, but for some reason I just don’t want one. Give it the 3.5 Ecoboost and make it capable off road and a 7k lb tow rating please.

I am about a year away from buying a “Commuter” - granted my commute takes me up and down Malibu’s canyons daily. I already have an R/T Durango (current DD/tow vehicle) and a C5 Z06 (track car), neither of which will be going anywhere. Is it worth the price premium to go FoRS or Golf R if I won’t be tracking it? Am I

I agree. There isn’t a decent example for less than $15k near Los Angeles. 150k+ miles with a salvage title, yes. I know California is more expensive, but a halfway decent example is still mid-teens. What is it with Tavarish’s articles recommending piles of shit with salvage titles? I pretty much automatically

I call BS on the GTO thing. If you want one with 150k miles and a salvage title, sure they can be found. A decent (read: under 100k miles and a clean title) don’t exist in any meaningful amount.

First apparently! Mid Engined Vettes have been a rumor since the 70s. I’ll believe it when I see it.

My parents had one brand new in 1998. Supercharged 3.8L and the thing would chew up highway miles as well as anything I’ve ever driven. It was also fun to take out in high school and run step for step with rice rockets and 80's mustangs. Just don’t ask it to go through a corner.

I learned at 15 years old on a 1979 Corvette. Not a lot of HP but a lot of torque, it was really forgiving.

But relative to the era, it wasn’t all that bad. I have one as well.

I give you the Chrysler 300 SRT8

Gonna have the same dilemma with my C5 when the time comes to get a newer one. I love it and I’m leaning towards track toy. With that being said, I don’t want to know what happened to my Firebird I had in High School, though I sold a G8 to a buddy and he almost immediately curb rashed my forged aluminum wheels!

A buddy of mine had 180k miles on his IS300 and 15 track days before he decided to retire it. He only had a suspension kit on it and he ran some absurdly fast lap times for what it is. They’re bulletproof.

The only problem with the 4Runner is that it isn’t available with a V8. Grand Cherokees w/ the 5.7 will tow upwards of 7k lbs. That and the Grand Cherokee might be the best looking SUV for under $70k (though not in Trail Hawk trim, I admit)

I wish I could give you more stars, and I ride a sportbike.

For Autos - The 8 Speed in my Durango R/T is pretty good (it only has a tendency to “hunt” when pulling a trailer up a decent grade). The 9 Speed in my wife’s Evoque is completely unnecessary.
My C5 with a 6 Speed stick could use one more gear. I tend to use 3 & 4 at the track almost exclusively (occasionally 2nd).

I quite like my C5 Z06. Light, fast, raw and it will bite your arm off if you aren’t paying attention. It is still very fast on a track against contemporary cars. Surprisingly cheap to maintain too.

I would like to give you more than one star sir!

Corvette Z06 and Viper ACR should be the WRs

Those were terrible. Though that is why I said C5-C7. Borg Warner T56 (1997-2000) Tremec M6/M12 (2001-2004) and the C6 and C7 gearboxes were stout and hold up well to track use

The boxes themselves in C5-C7 corvettes aren’t bad, the shifters just suck. That’s fixed easily enough.
