The reception could have been epic, but for one thing.

He’s the very model of a modern major general.

I take some comfort in the knowledge that someone PAID for that listing.

A 2023 Limited in the bay area is showing a MSRP of 73K.

Yup.  These are US brochures with the year footnotes added.  They are incorrect for both markets actually.

There was no MY1999 Focus. First gen was 2000-2007 (very minor refresh for 2005-2007)

Yup. Had one of these 20 years ago. My grown kids still talk about it.

Also correct. Cost of the vehicle does not negate this, but as you mentioned - it is more likely to occur with cheaper vehicles. Lets say there was no smog cert here - the seller *could* write as-is all over the bill of sale or whatever document they wanted and if it later failed emissions, the buyer could sue and

The same.

Correct.  If you went to DMV without the smog, they would start the transfer process but you would have to go get the passing smog certificate and then return to complete the registration and get CA plates.

Their display should include these on the roof. Dealer’s choice as to which on which car.

haha, you’re not wrong

My 1985 Sentra wagon rolled off the line with no radio at all.  I remember removing the delete plate and rubber plugs from the a-pillar to install a radio and antenna.

Knowing what I do about these engines - I’d be reluctant to pay more than about 5 grand for it and even then it would be tough because NO AIR CONDITIONING on top of the crap engine.

No no no no noooooooooooo. Focii of this era came with 2 engines, both 2.0L 4cyls. The “good” one is the DOHC Zetec engine which first showed up here on the Escort ZX2 and Contour/Mystique.

Nope - not even for that. Maybe if it had the decent Zetec motor but this is the shittacular SOHC. These things loved to grenade motors after ingesting valve seat pieces

Uh no. Not just no - HELL NO.
