Cost mainly - add another wheel, tire and TPMS sensor and for even cheap cars you’re talking an EASY $600 or more.  I bet the donut costs less than $100.

One of the first things I do with new (to me) vehicles whenever possible. Unfortunately many arent sized to hold anything other than the donut.

I once flat towed a parts car a couple miles with temp spares on both fronts - that was extremely sketchy and something I never repeated.

I remember living in Phoenix in the 80s - all of the wrecking yards were on one road south of town and several had bins out front filled with bins of these tires.  I once saw a Monte Carlo driving on a FULL SET of them.  Eep.
