Those pennies are worth roughly $12000 in copper today, however the original $5000 adjusted for inflation is $15,000. So he didn’t exactly lose his shirt, but he didn’t really make anything either.

Well those copper pennies are worth more, some figures 3 times more. So a $5,000 investment would make him $10,000. Not that transporting and keeping half a million pennies is all that easy.
