This is the first year I saw the No Postage thing in WA state - our situation was similar in that the post office would take it without postage, but didn’t advertise it, and I never trusted that. I used to walk my ballot to the box every time. As you mention, not everyone has that option, and I’m positive it makes a

Who’s telling them how to live their lives? Nobody’s showing up on her doorstep forcing her to give the ring back, we’re a bunch of random internet commenters who (in general) disapprove for a variety of reasons.

Came here to say this. It’s fantastic that so many people are turning out to vote and encouraging others to vote, including continuing to stand in line for hours, but the lines are definitely a barrier to voting and a sign that the infrastructure is insufficient.

Wow. She was probably calculating how much time she was wasting even as she was saying yes.

I fully admit I’m not clicking on many of the articles on site today. I’m already dealing with enough low-level election anxiety that I don’t want to add to it with more low-level election panic that characterizes most of the posts Im seeing today.

This all day. I’m in Washington State and it’s the same way here. The ballot this year had a large section on the front proclaiming “NO POSTAGE NEEDED!” It’s literally the easiest thing to do and it happens by electing officials who will pass it into law.

Thank you for a post explaining what’s going on! I know there are more than a few sites that might have just done a clean sweep with no explanation, but it’s nice to know and understand the whys of it.

It’s Seattle, which I see from the thread you’re already looking at (at least the PNW)! Bellingham is neat, it’s smaller but it’s a college town so there’s a bit of vibrancy. Thing is for both the PNW and Colorado, the further you go out from the big cities, the redder/more conservative it tends to get. Your

You may want to also search for “affordable cost of living”. My city pretty much checks all those boxes, but it’s pricing out nearly everybody.

“It was never my intention to” = “Okay so I did it but I’m not sorry for it, or at least not willing to say sorry because I still fully believe I’m right.”

This is absolutely why those of us who can vote, need to.

Okay, yes, I was about to ask “where in my post was I specifically being a dick” until I read the “not saying that’s you but this comment section is full of it.”

Ah, gotcha.

Barriers to what, may I ask? To voting? There absolutely are, especially for people of color and those economically and physically impacted. To running for office? There are, see above categories. To promoting local candidates for local office? Well, there are, given that it takes time/money/engagement, which may be

Given that I’m not one of the candidates evidently referenced here, I’m not sure what answer I can give that might satisfy. I get the frustration and disaffection, it’s a real thing.

To be perfectly honest, this is the more like the kind of post I was hoping and expecting to see when that initial post went up. Glad to see it here now.

Yep, if by “skiing industry” you mean a ski resort. There also is essentially the same kind of “skiing industry” present in Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckinridge, A-Basin, Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Loveland, Powderhorn, Steamboat, and also in the aforementioned Telluride and Crested Butte, along with a ton of others.

So I’m sure Archer also called up the other 130 “likes” and threatened them, too, right? As well as the person who posted the original image as well as the person who had the sign in their yard, right?

Aspen is further than that, you might be thinking of Vail, which is almost exactly two hours (if traffic isn’t an issue). If you pull up Google Maps you can see the distance and where Denver is situated compared to relative mining towns.

Oh, absolutely. Plot twist, though, Aspen itself is out in bumfuck middle of nowhere, too. The difference is it’s become A Destination for people with money. I was addressing the point raised in the OP that implies the only kind of nice scenery in the state can be found in Aspen.
