You’ve probably got a point with the SP2, but I’m not sure you can cite the other two without including the barely faster ‘90 Miata, and I don’t think anyone in good conscience is going to include a Miata on this list.

The Plymouth Prowler. It had the sports car looks and vibe but the 3.5L V6 engine in the initial release with the only option of transmission being a 4 speed automatic really let you down. With a 0-60 time of 7.1 and top speed of 118(limited) it was quite... leisurely for a sports car of the time.

Depends on the generation. Turbo Coupe and its V8 bigger brother were sleepers despite detuned engines so it doesn’t outperform the Mustang with the same engines.

The Pontiac Fiero:

The Dark Horse does look good when I saw it at the autoshow. The front end on these new ones still look a bit goofy to me. Like why is it so sad?

40-50k is a very affordable range for 2023. Stop bitching about your shortcomings and make more money. 

My 2015 fully loaded GT cost me $44k. 8 years later, this is an entirely reasonable price for a comparable car. I will say I wish I could have the dual mode exhaust, but I cannot stand the interior redesign.

Let me give you a few more reasons people might be Leary of jumping into an EV now despite the much higher cost of entry(which is a very big reason to not get one now).

Maybe it’s just the Merican in me, but all I’m hearing is we should force people to buy things they don’t want, and can’t afford, to be used in a infrastructure that isn’t ready.

Personally, I think going full-EV is a bad idea and mandating it is an even worse idea. And I’m an EV owner. Getting rid of the pure-ICE vehicle isn’t a terrible idea, but not leaving room for efficient PHEVs and hybrids that better fit the needs of most American drivers is a huge mistake.

So tax the consumers who are already struggling even more? Nah no more taxing individual people, tax these fortune 500 companies.

yeah, EVs are in a weird place. Too long a commute, and they can’t support it. Too short, there isn’t a cost benefit. My total driving most days is 20 miles . So even with high test and the like I could drive a Big Block Cobra and use less than $10/day in gas. Is it worth driving a Big Block Cobra daily over a Bolt

That’s still 10 minutes too long. It’s going to be hard to convince masses people to accept more inconvenience.

You don’t want to pack a cheese and charcuterie tray to enjoy in the Flying J parking lot for 50 minutes while you regain another 4 hours of driving range?  Sounds so appealing.

Convenience. I can’t charge 10% battery to 100% in less than 5 minutes. Having to plan road trips around charging stations. I don’t like to linger. I pump gas, take a piss and/or shit, buy snacks, and get back on the road.

My daily commute is less than 3 miles so I’m not very concerned about saving gas at this point.  Now, if there was something super awesome and fun available in an EV, I’d probably be more interested.  An AWD VW bus might do it and those might be coming... or even better, if they finally make that EV Scout I could
