This was a cynical play on our hero worship of people with cancer as saints. Cancer does not redeem anyone. Cancer is the second leading cause of death, with lung cancer being top amongst the cancers. Cancer is a fact of life, not a saving grace. 

Lube Man’s role was to lure Angela into chasing him right after she dropped a bag of evidence off a bridge. Angela runs after Lube Man, Lube Man slips into a sewer, Laurie recovered the evidence.

Why include Lube Man if he doesn’t contribute anything to the plot at all?

Yup. He was terminated as an FBI agent and the contents of his desk given away - including “a jug of what appears to be some kind of canola oil”.

Lots of reviewers have said that making Hooded Justice black was a change from the comics...even though it really isn’t because everything that we knew about HJ was speculation.

I feel some mild panic at the sheer amount of stuff that needs to be wrapped up in two episodes. I sincerely hope Lindeloff keeps his promise and this really is a self-contained season, but there is so much left to wrap up.

The Superman actors are a wonderful coincidence, but Bass Reeves was an actual person.  

Oh, and one more thought that just occurred to me: Will is inspired by seeing the story of Superman (brought to us via the American immigrant narrative, as symbolized by the accented newsstand guy whose copy he looks at), thinking it mirrors his own story, but the actual baby cast away from their home planet in this…

It looks like they’re doing The Long Halloween. The problem is The Long Halloween had multiple issues to play out, not 2 1/2 to 3 hours tops.
