That’s only true if you think of time as an immutable concept that can’t be controlled by human beings. VW is working on technology to address this.

For a more modern car, the combined lag from the turbo and the DSG in my wife’s old 2009 A3 was pretty hilarious. It was only ever really an issue when accelerating from a stop, but it would take half a second for the transmission to engage and then another second for the turbo to spool up.

Porsche 944 Turbo

1980 CX500 Turbo. I know this isn’t a car, but it’s automotive. Nothing, nothing, spool, no bike under you anymore. It’s a shame I’m “pending” though, so nobody’s gonna see this one. :’(

There’s a $400, transparent, reversible, programmable ECU flash that can make that Eco a whole lot better than it is :)

1980 Buick Riviera S-Type. Turbo with a carb! Plus FWD but longitudinally mounted, so no packaging effciency whatsoever. My Mom had one and I drove it for a few years. I think I’m still waiting for the turbo to kick in. And having a turbo in a Riviera back in 1980 is just kind of ridiculous on it’s face.

Its been said already in so many words, but I love just going on an aimless drive. Windows down stereo up. In my MR2 this consists of just exploring and looking for fun roads which I usually find by finding a river on the map and looking for a two lane road that follows it.

Thrash it. Fix it. Thrash it. Fix it. Repeat as necessary.

It’s almost as if there were 40+ years of development since then.

The Honda CRZ.

It should have been a modern day CRX, and easily could have been a modern day CRX!

Instead of putting one of the fantastic K-series motors in it, they put in that amnesic hybrid powerplant. Which is a damn shame, because they actually look really good IMO.
