Diesel generators operate at 40% efficiency, lithium batteries charge at > 90% efficiency, EV’s are around 75% efficient. Total efficiency = 27%

The 5-10% of usage that needs to use the generator during peak usage doesn’t make the remaining 90% moot.

A modern gasoline ICE is ~20-25% thermally efficient (that is, they extract 20-25% of the possible “work” from the gasoline and the rest is discarded as waste heat). Turbodiesels can get up near 40%. A decades-old, dirty-ass coal plant can get to around 60%, some of the very modern LNG plants can get to 80%. The

And that’s why EVs aren’t the answer to everything. Reducing use is absolutely an essential part of keeping humanity in existence.

When are the diesel generators used? My guess is that its surge capacity only . Can you imagine what kind of a load 98 EV’s charging would take? Even if we assume a relatively slow charging rate of 100 KW you are talking about 10 MEGAWATTS of power. Allow me to illustrate 10 megawatts of solar.

Battery swap station? What the heck was that guy thinking? Tesla gave up on that one a decade ago. But the “investigative journalist” wrote about it in ‘22? Kinda seems like the dude went looking for a negative article, and didn’t realize how easy it is to do that with ‘ole Elon just based on current events.

I agree it isn’t optimal... But it is useful for the environment.

The aftermath:

Yes, that’s part of why Burning Man was kicked off the Playa after the total destruction of 1996. Burn scars everywhere.

The subtext of Burning Man has never been “leave no trace.” It has always been “Who gives a fuck about this place, I wanna do fun shit in the desert.”

On the list of things Burning Man is about, environmental causes don’t even crack the top 10. This is because the top 10 things are all drugs, Instagram clout, sex, different drugs, and the various combination and permutations thereof.

Burning Man is pretty much the ultimate in douche-bro gatherings, based on the couple people I know who are devotees.

I think its because nationalistic borders are not as big a deal in western culture as they used to be. Tough borders is pretty normal... outside of western Europe and North America. And this is a pretty recent development. Go to western France and you can see seriously tough border fortifications that were built about

Rally car wagon.

LOL hey it doesn’t hurt to ask.

When I was a junior in college I participated in a study like this about the effects of drunk driving. I scored a perfect 80/80 on the closed road course at 0.18 BAC, more than double the legal limit. I asked if they could issue me a special Drunk Driver License to be immune to DUIs. They could not.

I own a 2016 GTI manual, bought new.  I will never buy an automatic one.

Getting a manual transmission fluid change is a no-go at that shop. They’ll put in ATF because they don’t know any better.

Not at all from a practicality or utility standpoint, but for looks and speed. The forbidden fruit CLS63 shooting brake gets my vote

EV’s decrease our dependency on foreign oil,
