1979's the only track I ever recall getting Top 40 radio airplay where I lived. A pretty rural area though, so if you wanted to hear them, the proper rock stations probably had that covered (and MTV).

Remember back when “Top 40" was an actual amalgamation of various genres and not just “Rhythmic Top 40" in general? Yeah, those were the days.

I dig all around these days and have no problems finding new and old stuff to find... Pandora, Spotify’s Discover Weekly, AAA terrestrial stations, etc. If you dig enough, there’s almost always something “new” to you to find.

Then what happened was the first long trailer came out and everyone flipped out when they saw him say “Why so serious?!” That really changed expectations for most people, and then when Ledger died a short time later, the excitement for seeing him play the role became overwhelming.

In some ways, it is a shame that Nicholson’s version is a bit overshadowed by Ledger’s nowadays. Sure, it was a bit more campy in hindsight, but his acting ability still delivered and came across at times as menacing in its own way.
