Honestly, I don’t even think it’s been a particularly great year for white women. I guess it’s the standard line Oscar nominated actresses have to say. I truly think Ronan (“Brooklyn”) and Larson (“Room”) would be filler nominees in other, stronger years.

I’m half with you on Rev Road. Like you, I was bored for 1.5 hours of that movie. But then I wanted any combination of Kate or Leo to die so I could leave the theater. I thought they were both terrible.

Honestly, I can’t remember a more brutal and effective takedown than what Christie did to Rubio on Saturday night. Seeing cardboard robots chasing after Marco yesterday was beyond heartwarming.

Agreed. And this may be sacrilege but I’ll add one more name: Meryl Streep. She’s great, but enough already. There are other great actresses over 60.

Now playing

Yes Whitney lip-synched but two points in her favor. First, confirmed by the people in the studio, Whitney’s recording used and later released as a single was done in one take. So essentially it was a recording of a live performance. Second, she proved several months later she could easily sing this live:

Whitney hit the perfect balance of showcasing her voice but not making the song about herself. Most since, and especially the relative failures, have overused runs and really made the song about how great they can sing. Gaga’s was good, and pretty straightforward, but Whitney’s was still better.

But that’s the one problem with Rock’s examples for me. You really can’t compare Lawrence to Union or Washington and expect them to be equal because there are other factors. A more interesting comparison is Union to Kirsten Dunst after Bring It On. Dunst got a ton of mainstream work (at least for a few years) while

Lupita feels more like a Marion Cotillard to me. Incredibly respected, great in serious dramas, but lacking the broad appeal to be a big star. I think I just answered my own question. Everyone saw her last weekend in Grease, probably the 2nd standout after Vanessa Hudgens: Keke Palmer. She’s 22, clearly very talented,

Chris Rock definitely has a very valid point and it’s something I’ve said throughout this #OscarsSoWhite conversation. The only Oscar snubs people could come up with were black men. 2015 was a very grim year for black women in movies.

I love Halle, but I don’t think her box office draw is anywhere near Sandra’s. It’s almost unheard of what Sandra did with The Blind Side. She was a solo woman headlining a movie with no other stars that made $250 million. And then she did it again with Gravity.

Clinton and Obama had 21 in 2008!

Guess who begged for more debates in May of 2008? Hillary Clinton. She and Obama had debated 21(!?!) times already. Obama refused to agree to any more mostly because he had the nomination locked up even if Clinton didn’t realize that yet. Clinton will spin and use debates in any way she deems necessary so I don’t

Do you remember 2008? After 21 (?!?) debates, Hillary demanded more against Obama. This was March or April when it was clear she was going to lose. He refused to debate anymore. She accused him of dodging. Point is, we still have a long way to go.

Are you talking overall TV ratings? Because after Saturday night, Friday night is the lowest rated night of the week. Tuesday or Wednesday would probably be the best night.

It’s also more than Hillary did in 2008 with the disruptive PUMAs who hated Obama. Hillary didn’t try to stop the outrage in April and May when it was clear to everyone except her and the PUMAs that she lost. We’ll see how the BernieBros take it this time. It’s funny, people seem to forget just how nasty that 2008

Whether or not Straight Outta Compton is Oscar worthy or not (I think it is), I’m fascinated by these Academy members writing open letters complaining about the new changes. How is Stephen Furst a member with his mediocre credits? If Furst is a member, then I hope to god Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, Chris Rock, and Kevin

I do hate how some critics love to shit all over ALW’s work. The man really knows how to write a great tune. Evita will always be my favorite of his (Patti Lupone recording of course). But my other, lesser appreciated favorite I’ve listened to over and over again is Sunset Boulevard (again, Patti Lupone’s recording).

The good news for Delpy? She’s about to get overshadowed by a guy who’s taking this to the next level of stupid.

And so far, alot of them seem to be coming from Europe. Rampling, Delpy, and Caine are proving that Europe is no more enlightened or progressive than America. They just think they are.

It’s crazy how timely the new season of American Crime is between this case and one other one in Virginia.
