The fact that you think degrees are worthless if they are not optimized to be able to pay back the cost of getting them says everything about the perception of education and its value in a capitalist, commercialized society.

I think that planning your entire life around a dollar sign is a pretty shit way to live. If it were up to me, there’d be a hell of a lot more people getting art degrees because believe it or not, there was a time when education was about personal growth, rather then just being a line item on a resume.

This is called a “false dilemma” argument and is a classic logical fallacy.

Education is not an “investment” in the sense that it should be valued based on monetary returns. That uniquely American world view is already based on education for profit which got us in this mess in the first place.
