“Bad plot/direction/script good cast” is indeed thrown around a lot, but it pretty consistently ends up being a bad overall grade for the movie.

Did you actually see it being trashed online, or are you just going based on what producers said and then what a bunch of websites said using the evidence of a select few YouTube comments from the trailer?

I sort of agree because audiences only like big dumb obvious movies, but Arrival (2016) did make $200 million.

Ya, and I would argue that that is basically the problem in a nutshell.

Annihilation came out this year. It was a great movie, with nearly an all-female cast, with a unique and well-received writer/director (Ex Machina’s Alex Garland).

Oh, are you telling me that a quintessential Soderbergh-film/franchise wouldn’t translate when you swap his script with the writer of Big and his direction with the director of The Hunger Games?

Right now, it’s a ragtag band that might, in the next movie, find that they need to unite with factions that don’t subscribe to the philosophy of the Jedi in order to win.

She was a useless character who did nothing productive the entire movie (to be clear, neither did Boyega), who maybe actually prevented Boyega from doing anything positive (with her dumb love will save us scene), and who had that line that nothing they just did was worth it until they unclasped a single saddle or

a surprising turn when you consider that the last movie was partially about how Star Wars is for everyone, not just the special few who think they deserve it.
