There’s a relatively early issue of <i>Astro City</i> that deals with this, and points out that given a universe where shape-shifting and mind control are known to exist, you can create reasonable doubt for any crime.

Jesus, that re-enactment was horrifying. When people talk about the uncanny valley, this is what they’re talking about. Especially the 12-year-old boy as Valerie Bertinelli.
