Neither car is set up to protect you from a bumper that is at eye level. If the hit is from the rear, it won’t matter. From the side? Maybe.

Baseball isn’t even that good, man.
I don’t think there’s a car for sale today that’ll protect you from the bro-douches.
I can just barely see the shell of something interesting. If the chassis and body panels are all free of rust, there’s something to build off of. All that room in the engine bay is screaming for something bigger. It would be pretty cool as a restomod with modern running bits and pieces... but then I’d want the…
Ewww...
Yep. I’d frankly be all for forcing them to actually innovate by opening up some competition.
how some of our legacy products could be used in an unintended manner.
Sweet jeebus... I came this close to buying one fresh out of University. It was a friend’s car, and he wanted a Jetta. Dude only wanted a thousand bucks back in ‘99ish. Didn’t happen... but that deal means I’m automatically going to lose my lunch over the price of this one. ND.
There’s also the little fact that the Chinese auto industry is probably at least 5 years ahead of the Domestics in EV production. Without that 100% tariff in place, there would be a steamrolling going on. Ideally, that would give Ford, GM, and company time to get their shit together, but instead they’re stepping…
It worked in 2016.
The Mazda6 I bought in 2013 and the CX-5 that’s in the driveway now both have extremely similar walkaway locking systems. You just need a thing in your pocket to receive/send signals with the car. Extending this to a cell phone - a device that already has bluetooth, NFC, cellular, and wi-fi - isn’t an innovation.
Technically, his companies have supply contracts with the government, which require some level of clearance. You can’t do much of anything with that level of clearance, which I know because I needed it as a supplier of a product for US military bases. I’d also guess that Musk himself doesn’t have the clearance -…
Here I am, looking at the auction, and thinking $20k isn’t so bad. It’s not far away, I have a garage.
Financial sense doesn’t exist when FOMO is in play. Or, “Keeping up with the Joneses” for the older crowd.
All other cars had keyless locking systems with walk up/walk away unlock/lock WAY before Tesla. This isn’t one of the areas where Tesla did anything innovative. I’m not even sure if they did anything interesting with digital keys - other automakers had solutions fast enough that I assume they were already working on…
You don’t though. You literally just need to unlock your phone and it’ll work.
I loved the *idea* of this car when it came out. But like this car, it was just too expensive. They’ve remained interesting, but mostly because I’m a big Mazda fan, and not because I’d ever have any intention of buying one. I’ll still linger and look though.
Enter all the “158 hp? Eww...” comments. For context here... the average HP available in cars in 1987 was a little over 100hp. An entry level Porsche would have been a quick car back then. Not the quickest, but comparatively speaking about how a car making 300 hp today would feel in comparison to the rest of the…
First... good on her for getting the kid out.
I love it, and really want it to be on the other side of the continent. I have zero issue with the car (and ready for work and maintenance - you kinda have to be with an old Beemer), and this one is one of the best ever. Very easy NP. I’d be taking a trip to see it on the weekend if it wasn’t thousands of kms away.
