The EPA wasn’t responsible for the CAFE standards, those were championed by George W. Bush. The asinine formula should have been changed decades ago, but the lobbyists’ success combined with Congress’ chronic inability to legislate have left us and the EPA with the nearly useless standards.

It would if being able to hold that class of licence is revoked when you do something stupid and then cant get it again or said vehicles it pertains to.

Small older bridges in rural areas, including but not limited to ones in the northeast, have weight- related restrictions like that posted, too. Regular passenger vehicles are fine, but every once in a while a box truck or semi drives over one and completely collapses it.

Trucks should be required to be Body on Frame to classify as trucks and that lower tax. They actually need to be functional trucks with large payload capacity. And they should be outfitted as trucks: bulkhead if needed, d-rings for securing cargo, have fire extinguisher, etc. etc. Ideally ICE trucks should be powered

Which is why you secure your loads. My 1978 E-150 has D-rings & a dozen ratcheting tie downs...

This is a great idea. Now add at least one zero to that fee and we’re talking.

So EVERY iphone you’ve had needed a new battery in days? ...aaand you keep buying them? I find the first claim unlikely and second to be...well....insane.  If I buy something that doesn’t work, I’m certainly not buying a second one.

In 2023?

I’ve never had this happen to any of the iphones I’ve owned, and none of my iphone-using friends have either.

Sorry, every iPhone needs a replacement battery after a week? Is this satire?

I’ve never experienced this, ah but my current I-phone is an 11 SE so I’m not exactly eager to change it. Maybe the bare bones models are just built better. Seems to be my personal observation as well, the less bells and whistles, the longer things tend to last.

make it a cent a pound for all vehicles a year. over 4-5k is 2c a lb then 4 then 8 and so on.  the hummer ev would cost about 852$ a year if its at 9300lbs.

Maybe we also update the gas guzzler tax so it applies to trucks, too? And have it apply to anything that averages <30mpg, at a starting fine of $2,000? There’s so much low-hanging fruit in reducing U.S. vehicle emissions. American lifestyles haven’t changed so much in the past 20 years that mid-sized sedans/wagons

There are Zero Hummer Hybrids running around anywhere.

This makes the most sense. My Miata and I appreciate your take

How about the federal government start with eliminating tax incentives for heavy vehicles, or at least limiting them to demonstrable work truck...regardless if they are ICE or EV.

Colorado Law Would Charge Owners For Driving Giant, Pedestrian-Crushing Trucks And SUVs”

Only $30? Still I’m sure the “Buh mi freedum!” folks will throw a fit.

Yeah - not enough. It needs to scale upwards with weight at some sort of logarithmic rate. According to the linked article, a RAV4 hybrid (at 3900 lbs) would pay about $5 extra with the Hummer paying $30 at 9000 lbs.

2nd Gear: UAW announced a strike at Stellantis Sterling Heights plant that makes the Ram 1500 this morning about 30 min. ago. They must have not made that much progress.
