I agree. They could have pushed the envelope harder in a lot of ways. The current car should have had an LSD, better tires, and more steering feel. The interior too could have been tweaked more to better compete with the Audi and Mercedes in particular.

I looked at the 340i and I will concede that the interior and handling were a bit nicer. I’ll also say that in stock form the car is lazy in the mid and upper RPM’s. I looked at a couple 340i’s and no one would budge on the MSRP in Atlanta. The other part of the reason I went with the Q50 was because of recent tuning

Now playing

I’m confused by this statement: “In a mile race, the Germans would still prevail.” Just looking at the two most recent C&D articles for the C43 AMG and Red Sport, the C43 gets to 130 mph in 18.8 seconds and the Red Sport does it in 18.6. Also, the C43 has a speed limiter of 134 mph and the Red Sport a limiter of 153?

I disagree

If I’m being completely fair, the 13B-REW IS a good engine. It’s been successfully campaigned in plenty of race cars and time attack car, essentially making my complaints invalid - or at least irrelevant.

I just realized that I’m arguing with someone on the internet. Yeesh. Color me embarrassed.

Quick recap in case you’re having trouble following:

You’re extremely unpleasant. The article asked for a car that was quick to 60. Handling was not a component that the buyer was looking for. They were excited about torque and acceleration. I did not bring up German cars and the inly comparison was originally with the model 3's claimed acceleration but you brought up

This. People still underestimate the Q50. Somewhat of a secret how potent it can be. Mine should make about 420whp with the tune it has. Hope to hit up the track eventually.

This made me laugh, but I have to disagree to some extent.

The original comment and my reply to you were both referring to the Tesla Model 3.

But is it less of a driver’s car than the 3? Only time will tell, but I doubt it.

Who cares? The article asked for cars that accelerate quickly. So I posted a car that accelerates quickly. I’m not sure what’s so hard to understand about that.

Did I strike a nerve? In what world does a stock C43 trap 112, or an S4 for that matter? Search around and try to find a publication that gets that time from either car. Also, where did I bring up handling? The post here and my response was clearly only talking about acceleration.

Incorrect. Not when compared against the germans in the same price segment. The Q50 red sport is quicker than a 340i, which also starts at 50K.

50 grand can get you a new Q50 red sport with rwd or awd, which will likely walk the 3.

You see, Porsche, it’s possible to take things away and reduce price.

You sure do like to unnecessarily punish your wallet.

Exactly. 20b. Not worth wasting your money 😉

It’s not just the lack of torque, but the delivery of that power and torque. All of the cars you listed are very linear in their power delivery. That said, hard pass on the F20c, Mezger, and S14B23/5. Underpowered and/or prohibitively expensive.
