Your comment mirrors a post I read a few weeks back (I can’t remember where). But the writer grew up in the USSR. And he is unimpressed with the romanticizing of it these days. And like you said - it’s easy to point to the Gulags, etc. But he said the best arguments against the USSR are little things like fully

It’s weird how people seem to forget/ignore how bad life was behind the iron curtain. There’s a reason they tried to keep people from escaping. And if life wasn’t so bad, why would people be so desperate to leave?

Well put. Nuance is important - especially in a situation like this.

I bet the Warriors wish the Raptors had J.R. Smith on their squad last night instead of this guy.

Glad to see Stafford is better at Rodgers at something. And as a former fat guy, Stafford was clearly going to dominate a beer chugging competition.

RE: Standing behind someone in line

Nice.

Because it’s a dog wondering in the street in the middle of the night. It’s not the dog’s fault his owner is a total asshole.

You’ve met classic rock radio, haven’t you?

With a performance like this, my beloved Tigers will likely have a spot for this kid in their bullpen in 15 years or so.

When I read her clarification, all I could think of was this:

Definitely. It’s also a pretty common tactic by any large corporation to remove a suit like this from state court to federal court. There is far more procedural crap to deal with, longer timelines, likely more favorable judges/jury pool.

It’s a stark reminder that we’re not THAT far removed from the horrors of slavery. It should also help us keep in mind that we still have a long way to go as far as “equality under the law” goes.

If idiots participating in these types of “challenges” thins out the herd, so be it. If you’re dumb enough to eat food with its packaging still on and it kills you, I won’t mourn your loss.

They won FOUR Stanley Cups over an 11 year period, and damn near a 5th in 2009 (also lost one in 1995, and had the best regular season ever in 1996). It was a pretty historic run. I don’t think anyone feels it’s a birthright, but they were consistently VERY GOOD for a very long time. So yeah, I guess the fans got a

Well, my dislike of it is probably not as edgy as yours. I just think it’s a shit song, and it appeals to our worst, jingoistic instincts. America the Beautiful would be a much more fitting song if you ask me.

I agree. It’s stupid, sort of coerced patriotism. Also, it seems a little too jingoistic for my liking. Plus, as many others have noted, the National Anthem and God Bless America are shitty songs, anyway.

As far as my biological clock - the 8 - 9 A.M. slot is usually when I get the urge (usually right after I finish my first cup of coffee). What sucks is my office building only has two stalls in each bathroom. This becomes a problem as many other people in the building seem to get their coffee shits at this time, as

Misery loves company though. Just think about the three Padres fans that have to watch them every game!
