As an 18-19 y/o sport compact nut at the time, the SRT-4 definitely felt like the king when it came out, and reports of underrated hp numbers quickly spread. It wasn’t perfect but easily the fastest new car for the money back then.

While true, at the time when it was introduced I remember the 3.5 model with the VQ was a solid package.
They killed the cruiser AND the neon for it. Coming off the generation of Neon that had the adored (at the time) SRT4. I recall people being pissed.
So don’t give them your money if the car has red flags? Like any other dealer?
I was like this with DMB for a long time. Don’t really care for them, still don’t, and was more vocal about it than necessary when people raved over Dave in my high school/college years. In the end a lot of people love him and the shows, so who cares, let people have fun. Music more than any other artform is pretty…
Oof. I disagree but to each their own I guess.
Maybe not so much in recent years but I think people usually went with Infiniti because they wanted some extra speed at the expense of being slightly less refined/reliable. Many of their offerings were in the same price range. I mean at one point, the G35 and IS300 were competitors. As much as I love the original IS,…
This is where I’ve always been at, despite it all being cool to hear about it. I love conspiracy theories as well, but purely for entertainment honestly feel bad for those that are that naïve and gullible.
What’s hilarious is the Cadillac SRX of the same generation, which was the same platform as a Terrain, had headlights that were dangerously underpowered. We had one as our family car a while back (wife liked it), and the main headlights were worthless after a year or so. I tried replacing with different halogens, HIDs,…
While this is true, rust is pretty uncommon down here.
You mention that, and I think this is absolutely a GTI competitor. I know VW isn’t a luxury brand, but the GTI is certainly a little more luxurious/grown up than the Civic Si. I mean for what it’s worth I cross-shopped the GTI against used 3-series, Acura TLX, etc. (went with the GTI). If I was looking at used cars a…
DSG service is more than twice as much at my dealer vs my independent shop. My GTI is under warranty so if I had any major issues diagnosed, I’d bring it in to the dealer but otherwise maintenance and check ups are done at the shop.
Well I wouldn’t take my VW to a mechanic that doesn’t work on VWs then would I? What kind of comment is that?
What I’ve learned with VWs is to avoid dealers if you can. If you’re in a decently sized metro area, there are typically more than one good independent shops that specialize in VWs, and will do great work for significantly less.
I almost bought one of these several times over the last decade, recently choosing a GTI over one (despite the CC being “more my age”). I personally think the design is beautiful (especially with the R-line package) and overall a fun car with the DSG flappy paddles+turbo motor. You’re getting a very “Audi” experience…
I don’t think this car is being purchased for the sports car experience. This is purely a collector’s car at this point and will rarely be driven again.
Just to clear this up, with Carvana you can absolutely test drive before buying, when either picking up from the store or if delivered to you. They tell you to take it for a test drive by yourself before signing anything. It’s a little different in the sense that you don’t go and browse and test drive a few cars, but…
For shits and giggles I just did a few trade in estimates for a 2015 GT with those specs (and set the exterior condition to poor), and got quoted $19-21k. The market is absolutely insane right now, $15k would be a steal for your car. I don’t think a non-accident 2015 GT could be found for under $20k honestly.
He means the MK8. Most of the controls are via the touch screen or haptic feedback “buttons”. MK7 and 7.5 have a good balance between knobs and touchscreen which is why people are pretty frustrated that the latest version overcomplicated things.
Curious but why didn’t you swap for another GTI with a DSG? Been a lifelong manual driver and recently got a MK7.5 GTI with the dual clutch and was very very impressed. It’s a whole different kind of fun.
