Given the almost complete lack of prop wash, except for a brief period, I'd guess they were actually attempting to get the engines restarted, but couldn't in time.

I'd venture to say it has a long interconnect shaft and is able to forgo many oiling lines by just running the engine oil over the bearings that are in the block.
