Perhaps her dog is for service? You aren’t allowed to pet service animals - they are there to work and they usually wear some sort of vest indicating so. I know a woman who has a dog due to her MS.

We tend to say “economy class” in Canada.
I sat in first once when I young. The woman who sat one row in front of me told my mom I was a brat. Mom thought otherwise. And it wasn’t as if I was THAT young. I was 11 1/2. The woman was just being a bitch and didn’t think kids belonged in first.
We didn’t have seats together on our way BACK from hour honeymoon!!! :(
There’s also a stereotypical or “traditional” mindset, especially from a more “flyover country” audience (okay, I might be stereotyping here). Casting call for “preppy, golf-playing 30-something” usually translates to “Anglo, white male.” In reality, this could very well mean female and of East Asian descent (okay, I…
Hell, Grey’s Anatomy, set in a SEATTLE HOSPITAL, could have had a few more Asian doctors and nurses.
I was (and still am) a Charlotte kind of girl (these days, “Charlotte” types are more likely non-WASP, IMHO). Complete with the “marrying well” sort of thing. And yeah, I ended up marrying not my “Trey” but directly to “Harry.” And like the Goldenblatts, we are adopting abroad.
I’m on #teamaidan and thought the whole breakup was a HUGE MISTAKE. And the season could have ended after Miranda had her baby. That episode was PERFECT.
You know, I don’t really “mind” guys-only private clubs. I was, for a time, a member of a women-only private club which functions very much like traditionally men’s groups. Didn’t really “fit in” there - most were 60-something semi-retirees while I’m a 30-something (the few 30 and 40-something women were mostly moms,…
Well, Montreal respects bagels too. I have heard too many people complain about bagels outside of Montreal (I find bagels, in general, too dense). But then again, Montreal is in Canada.
I think 1971 was the one year my mom taught middle school (Chinese) history at her alma mater. She left teaching after that and went into IT, an industry she was in until 1992.
Meh...stocks are a long term thing. I’m 36. Assuming I’m going to have an average lifespan, I have a few decades ahead of me. #justsayin
I STILL don’t understand what being (somewhat) spoiled and overprivileged has to do with WHITE privilege. It’s not really the same thing. In any case, TRUE white privilege only applies to those who are at least middle class.
Being white has nothing to do with getting one’s way every time. Spoiled brats/guys and girls who get their own way is not colour-specific. When I was in high school, the girls with designer bags (that were NOT borrowed from mom) were more likely Asian than white.
Montesorri programs take kids as young as 18 months.
And many of their fans aren’t too bright.
Facebook DOES make one angry sometimes. Some of my FB friends have really weird, perhaps overly leftist thoughts. And I’m not even super-right wing - just a little old fashioned and probably a bit more old school “proper.” :P hehehe (I’m proud to be so)
Cultures evolve. The Hong Kong my parents grew up with (50s and 60s) is nowhere close to what Hong Kong is like now. Some things can be preserved, while others can’t.
How common is it? I know a few people in my culture who married individuals who are from the EXACT SAME background (which not only includes language/ethnicty, but also class/upbringing), but I think it’s less than 30% (if you only factor in language and ethnicity, I’d guess it’s less than 50%). And even THOSE people…
I find the entire family a turn-off. And you know what sucks? I used to like Will Smith. I think Scientology kind of screwed them up.
