From recent CPR/First Aid courses I recall something about ‘good samaritan’ laws protecting people who have had CPR and First Aid training when they help before first responders are on scene. Not that there couldn’t be a lawsuit filed, but I believe there are some legal protections already in place. In a case like

Thanks! That explains why I’m hearing different expectations for it...

Nice writeup Torch! One-pedal driving is really fun once you get used to it. Looks like they have turned over a new Leaf (sorry).

thanks

Lots of people are working on lots of ways to improve energy production and storage across all sorts of energy forms. Batteries for EVs had some recent leaps in technology that make them viable, whereas for many decades they were not. Those are improving quickly as well. Why not continue investing in making all sorts

This thing literally looks like a wastebasket I would want next to my desk at work. Really cool looking trash can. Just weird if it were to be a real car.

Sure. But adding hybrid batteries and motors does not add up to 1000 lbs. not even close. Anyway, it’s worthy of testing if not production.

Valid point, but you are gaining extra power to make up for it...

Thanks! I’ve been driving a Volt for a few years now and enjoy beating the snot out of it, so I know what GM is capable of. Plus, the whole ‘performance hybrid’ thing has been done already, that works too! Porsche, Ferrari, Mercedes etc all have fully functional systems with performance oriented gas driven electric

Vette should get the performance hybrid model of drivetrain. Use the E-motors for extra acceleration and regen braking. Use the V8 to keep the juice flowing.

What could go wrong? Pretty much anything, but I’d trust a computer at the controls more than a human. That said, it’s going to be many, many years before I let a computer completely control my car or local flight.

The issue here seems to be creating a pickup (very American) then not bringing it to America. If they want to actually sell them, they will need to bring them to the US market - US pickup shoppers seem to be willing to buy anything ‘luxurious’ so bring it Mercedes!

Autonomous flying I could go for better than autonomous driving, if only because the space is less occupied by idiot drivers. Human pilots have far more stringent licensing requirements, and autonomous flight is pretty much already a proven thing on modern aircraft.

He was able to get back pretty far and flag a few cars that managed to slow down early. I would say that he did help those cars.

Thanks. Nice blog, I’ll read through it.

I second this - it seemed like is primary motive was to run back to warn other drivers, trying to help avoid more piling up. Yes he put himself at risk by getting out of the car, but if he hadn’t, he would have probably been in much worse shape anyway, and it would have been the car in front of his that got hit

Alright, so serious questions about lanesplitting here, regarding that video in particular. It doesn’t look like you were going a lot faster than traffic, but -

Interesting, around here I rarely see anyone pull to the side when they have a sudden stop. I wonder if winter weather has trained drivers differently - if you cut the wheel when trying to stop, there’s a good chance you are going down an embankment or into some trees... (new england)

For what it’s worth we are kind of excited about trying to buy a new Pacifica Hybrid next year. Should be ‘boring’ but seems like it could be a pretty fun family hauler in reality. “Dream car” is pushing it, but if we get a decade of good family memories out of it then it’s more than served it’s purpose!

I suppose the debris part is valid, but I would think you are a lot more likely to have a car suddenly move into your split line than to dive into the shoulder. I mean, if traffic is moving fast enough for that there is no justification for splitting in the first place because traffic is already moving at a decent
