I have to disagree with you. Sure they could have done better with the seats, but these were made to be like a comfy sofa. I never had a problem with aching backs and I’ve spent plenty of time in these types of cars.

I use Hagarty for my classics. I love that they do not require me to make my ‘antique’ a trailer queen or show car. I can tick the box for “drive it like a normal car sometimes” and it’s a done deal! They know I’m not going to rack up 200,000 miles a year on it, it’s a classic! So my insurance rates on the classic…
This seems like Jalopnik’s longest NPoCP post ever! Where’s the poll? I’m going with CP, because it just doesn’t seem like a good investment. Store it like they did? A car like this, as nifty as it is, just isn’t going to command a high value someday. Drive it? Well there goes your ‘investment’... if you really are…
Ah ha - but this can’t happen. See, New GM (people) is suing old GM (a corporation), since old GM was locked down as ‘old’ back when corporations were not people yet. Confused? I am. I’m probably wrong here too. I’m sure old GM is a person, or maybe not. Especially since old GM is now just a paper company. Maybe they…
But if you put it in something used less frequently, a PHEV similar to the drivetrain in the Volt, it would last for 400K instead of 100K.
Indeed. Like how the Chevy Volt is set up but with a new Mazda HCCI engine. What makes it even better is how they have much more control over the engine’s RPM when it is acting in generator mode, it would be ideal for this type of engine where load and RPM can be very steady even while driving conditions vary.
Just put Rain-X on the rear window and it stays mostly clear. The only negative is when it’s salt spray all over the roads, then it can get dirty like the rest of em. I’ve been driving sedans for years and this has worked well for me. It would be neat to have a rear wiper though.
I drove mine to work today. It’s still comfortable, powerful and I enjoy driving it. I’m not embarrassed, I got to work on time and everything!
Yes, my grandparents bought it new. It’s been mine for 26 years or so... AMA!
Oh I know what it looked like next to those. I’ve been driving this since 1989 or so. It looked much better than an 80's Accord ;)
Thanks. It looks much better when wet like this ;) I have since started cutting out all the rusty bits and replacing them with metal bits, and it will be a while before it’s really finished. But it’s coming along nicely, and quite a bit faster than it was originally... https://www.flickr.com/photos/65093156@N08/albums/…
“It’s not a jar, it’s a door!” Is what we used to say when it went off...
So wait, maintaining 18 Ohios, developing a new fleet of submarines and keeping missiles up to date on those new subs is going to be cheaper than updating the land-based missiles? I’d like to see the math behind that. I get that invisible, portable missiles are better than ones stuck in the ground, but don’t make this…
Well the AI certainly didn’t.
There is still a lot to learn on autonomous driving IMO. There are many ways to accomplish the same things, and some approaches work better than others. It’s all in the name of research until these systems get more robust. I have yet to see an autonomous system that can handle iced over sensors and snow covered roads…
That’s just silly! Encouraging people to cross lanes at the last minute (depending what light color you see)...
Their vehicle lineup is a factor for repeat VW customers. We have an ‘08 Passat Wagon that’s starting to show it’s age and there is nothing in VW’s current lineup we would replace it with. CRV has always been good in that segment.
That doesn’t make sense. Either force the jughandle or don’t use one, it’s really confusing to have both!
It prevents people from making a dangerous left turn at an intersection with a lot of two-way traffic, and gives the cars that do need to turn left (usually a lot of them to justify a jughandle) their own place to queue up off to the side. A lot of older roads had these added if they didn’t have enough room to widen…
