I agree with you, but you’re also not the person probably impacted by an increase in grocery prices. Fixed income folks who probably don’t spend much on things beyond groceries and bills are the ones suffering from this. Our food bank has stopped accepting food donations because of contamination concerns too which is

I told my dad when I got my stimulus check that it was all basically going towards the cost of food since stores are running out of generic everything it seems. My rent is 50% my paycheck (I am lucky enough to still be employed), so I’m not exactly made of name brand money.

The initial CDC advice was an exercise in CYA to avoid exacerbating the national PPE shortage AND to protect POTUS’ delicate feelings. Notice whether initially or currently the CDC advice on wearing masks has NEVER suggested there is any downside for the user in wearing a mask.

And this is why our infection rates aren’t going to drop any significant level any time soon. Wearing a mask is a courtesy to everyone else, particularly people who can’t wear masks, just like your immunity protects everyone else, particularly people with immunodeficiency.

That’s not the way it works though. The masks we’re wearing in public are to prevent you spreading anything to others. It does very little to protect you.

The fact that a significant portion of the public expects scientists, the media and the government to immediately understand everything about a virus previously unknown to man is illustrative of a much bigger problem.

This is not how masks work. Your mask protects someone else. Someone else’s mask protects you.

“and we all cross the street to avoid each other anyway”

Then elect a government that takes care of it’s citizens monetarily in times of crisis as it should, in Canada everyone including just graduating students get a check every month, on time. Your problem is with your country and the war mongering self serving people that represent you.

Staying inside to protect others isn’t cowering. Get over yourself and your entitlement.

This is wrong. Herd immunity is a thing for vaccinations and masks. Both protect the people around you much more than they protect you.

But your ill informed choices are putting my health and my family’s health at risk. And you’re willfully misunderstanding the “perceived benefit”. I would rather characterize the perceived benefit as: millions of people who would have died or needlessly suffered in an overwhelmed healthcare system DON’T DIE.

You are an idiot who is putting my health at risk, against my will. I would rather be alive and poor than foolish and dead/ill/carrying life-altering illness to others.

Wearing the mask is for others’ benefit, not your own.

Georgia’s cases aren’t dropping, though.

“In my county we have had a total of 121 fatalities, and at least a third of those where reported as the Rona but most likely something else.”

So... the news reports of people dying around the globe of COVID are a liberal conspiracy, but the (checks notes) Internet postings about “millions” starving to death are believable?

I’ve cut down on the number of stores I go to. I used to go to various grocery stores for different products and prices. Now that I’ve cut it down to two different stores, I have to pay more for the same product.
