Why did we never get an episode about Manhattan or the rest of the council? I wanted more Andre Ward!”

They really did deserve (at least) their own episode.  As it was, the show always seemed to *act* like we, as viewers, knew more about the character than we actually did (if that makes any sense).

Oh, fair enough. My comment was more just me being glib that of course *this* show would show the rather timid seeming new trans character being practically forced to walk the ball on your very first night meeting any of these people is a great idea and will go wonderfully. ;)

Yeah, you’re right of course and I do Read more

I wasn’t expecting major characters who were introverts, I was just sort of bummed out by the implication that if you’re scared and queer and HIV+, participating in the balls is a mandatory initiation for community. I just wanted a quick scene of them scooping up a shy newcomer in some other context. Read more

I think it’s definitely open for interpretation, especially since he seemed to realize he was going to die the very night he did...

After most of last year was made up with histrionic Billy Porter I was annoyed that the early episodes this year had more of that (just a more drunk histrionic Porter) as it seemed played out, btu I did like his final episodes.

As for introvert trans and queer people, I mean the show IS called Pose. ;) As it was, as Read more

That woulda worked better.  With only 7 episodes I also found it hard to watch one episode which was mostly an over the top fantasy wedding episode and then follow it up with a relatively sober and downer finale--maybe if they mixed the plots together better it wouldn’t feel like such a tonally different show each Read more

Oh for sure, the only reason I didn’t say I hope we see more of Billy Porter is that I feel like we’re already seeing a lot more of Billy Porter! As it should be.

Yeah I really don’t think they had enough time to tell all the stories they wanted to tell.

I was thinking while I was watching that pouring ashes on the Gracie Mansion lawn in 1994 would mean Giuliani had just gotten into office... the new mayor? How involved is a mayor in national health policy anyway? Weird strategy! And then I thought I’m just ignorant of why exactly that would’ve been a great strategy. Read more

As a long term survivor and ACT UP veteran,  the ACT UP scenes in the finale and last season just pissed me off. Show up to two meetings and suddenly you're in charge and organizing the protests? GTFO.

100% agreed. I happened to watch HBO’s Larry Kramer documentary last night and Murphy/whoever was in charge just superimposed Blanca and the other characters over Kramer and Act Up out of no where. How Blanca all of the sudden seemed to be leading an Act Up meeting years after the organization was founded and it never Read more

I’m so sad this show is over and frankly sad it was Too Important to just tell good stories without the “Cover These Important Things” label slapped on the shortened final season, but it’ll certainly have a place in the TV compartment of my heart. Read more

I agree that this season wasn’t as enjoyable as the others, it felt like a little a bucket list of things to check off rather than a well-structured narrative arc. The depressing part was how much I couldn’t help but feel like they thought “well, we won’t ever be able to tell these kinds of stories with these kinds of Read more

I felt like every major character got their keystone episode this season - at least Elektra, Pray, and Angel/Papi. A lot happened in these 2 hours but it was really Blanca’s episode. I loved it.

Season one of Pose was kind of dire in hindsight, in spite of some decent episodes sprinkled in. Season two and three are much better, though I feel that the show probably could have continued all things considered. If anything, I wonder if Murphy’s deal with Netflix is one of the reasons the show ended so soon.

I dunno. I thought this season was quite bad! I know that Ryan Murphy was only tangentially involved with the production of the latter seasons, but this season nonetheless reminded me of his similarly unwatchable Netflix project Hollywood: Well-meaning wish fulfillment, that ends up being an insult not only to its Read more

I think I would much rather not be pandered to and not have this show think so little of my intelligence as an audience member. Believable stories can be created without relying on tropes. Character development doesn’t need to be abandoned for a feel good—but ultimately worthless—happy ending. I’d rather have the Read more

I had issues with Ratched but they didn’t have to do with sexuality. You’re right about Nip/Tuck, although the endless Carver storyline (and its resolution) was when I really stopped expecting anything from the show, anyway... It’s interesting though at how much trouble Murphy has had (especially in the shows he’s Read more

For the life of me, I cannot understand all of the positive reviews I keep running across for this show’s final season. Are critics so completely starved and grateful for a show featuring trans actors that they completely disregard the things they should be critiquing? Read more

Evan Peters, Kate Mara and James Van Der Beek weren’t the heart of the story by any means, but I think they did bring a good counterpoint to the story that highlighted the reality of the world. I think making that cut didn’t do a great service to the show. I’m not against celebrating the trans community and Read more
