Now do the math on the 20 years in Iraq so we could prop up the dollar with the military industrial complex. Oh don't forget to include the dynamics of the petrol dollar in general. Oh you didn't know when the us went off the gold standard it shifted to an agreement with Saudi Arabia that all oil purchased from them… Read more
I smell as massive amount of bs in this article
No, it’s a pretty terrible choice right now. If you have absolutely no appetite for risk then a high interest (lol) savings account is your best bet right now. That way you don’t lock in a terrible interest rate for longer term. If you have a little bit of risk tolerance and you don’t need the money for a while I’d… Read more
Now is a terrible time to start a CD ladder, as rates are so low they offer barely (if any) advantage over a normal high yield savings account (and frankly those are so bad right now they’re barely better than checking accounts). If you put your money in a non-no-penalty CD, there’s a good chance you’ll be locked into… Read more
CDs just aren’t significantly better than other savings accounts because interest rates are so low. Sure, it’s double the interest, but, as you pointed out, that’s only a half percent difference. If we were talking about 4% in a savings account, and 8% in a CD, then it might be worth sacrificing the liquidity for most… Read more
Is CDs really the best way to save money? The best 5 year CD rate is a little over 1%. With $10k tied up in your ladder you are sacrificing quite a bit of liquidity for $100 a year. My experience is mostly with kidney beans and if I do not throw out that brown fluid after I soak them, I end up with some sever gastrointestinal distress. There are indigestible sugars in there that go clear through to the colon, where they are broken down into obnoxious gasses. This is from about 50 years of… Read more
Those “water cooler” chats can honestly be so fun--and restorative.
I can remember the days of being at the office and around 2PM people would start making their way into the break area to grab an afternoon cup of joe. We’d stand around for a few minutes asking “how’s it going” and other such small talk. I think in person interaction is what I miss most about going into the office.
Funny. The Oatmeal just recently launched a set of jigsaw puzzles. Might legitimately give that a shot.
if you don’t have the space in your residence to put together a puzzle, there’s jigsawplanet.com. it’s free to use and has puzzles of varying difficulty and images. plus you can create an account to upload pics of your own to make into a puzzle
Some of this highly specific security jargon can be hard to follow, but I appreciate its inclusion. But due to the complexity of the language, I’d recommend correcting one typo, which should make it a bit easier to read: Read more
“Not having them” is the best parenting advice that unfortunately I did not heed.
