I thought out of context meant they were removed from the overall conversation and presented as something else? Or has it always meant it went over our heads? No snark intended.

You’ve got Japanese and South Korean kids using “nigga” as an all-purpose greeting amongst themselves and singing lyrics with the word in it like it’s going out of style. And you really think they are facing consequences?

Define “can’t.” You can. But you’ll be saying a racial slur and being an asshole.

A not-hypothetical explanation: My brother has a nickname for me. He is the only person allowed to call me that name. I might tolerate other people in my family calling me that name, but no one outside my family. It is an insult from

Just don’t say it.

Why are you acting like you can’t read when I’ve clearly stated no one should be using it?

If that were true, the most popular songs by recording artists of color would be whatever songs had the most racial slurs (i.e., excuses for white people to gleefully sing out slurs).

You can’t say that word, white people.

No, that’s not what I said. I literally said “I don’t know”. In any event, the issue was murky to me. It’s not after reading some comments.

I’m Hispanic and I naively never thought about how the rules extended to songs as well. But I humbly accept that that was a stupid way to look at it and this is not my call to make.

It’s not about an “excuse”.

See, I want to agree with that but, I know that’s not how it works.

Do what? Sing a rap song with offensive words? I mean, I have no audience, but okay. I’m just really wondering if everyone who enjoys rap music is literally leaving out the word every time it comes up while singing along in the car alone or at home.

Strong disagree. I believe Ta-Nehisi Coates pointed this out recently. It is really really easy to not sing along to that word. Like super easy. While black people have to constantly police what they say at the risk of being seen as angry or hostile or whatever.

do you believe their glee was borne of their love for the word or their love of a popular song, hazel?

Who even buys VS anymore? Most uncomfortable underwear

So if a non black person sings along to a song in their head that has the N word in it and doesn’t bleep it out/skip over it mentally, does that make them a racist?

And I don’t give a shit.

Katie Couric: “He pinches me on the ass a lot.”

Mmmmmmmmhmmmmm.

They probably can’t get their minds around a lot of things.
