That would be the previous gen. A coworker of mine had a ‘95.
Not much actually (on the 2.5l). Took less than a hour. Airbox on the one side, battery on the other and loosened the washer fluid reservior. Used a few extensions.
I also have a 03 Outback and I love the simple yet usable controls. The visibility is excellent as well.
They used to be 10k compacts is the problem (I bought my Protege brand new for 11K).

I am DD’ing my first automatic trans vehicle (Subaru 4EAT with ~194k) and I hope it will last as long as the Subaru it replaced (5MT with ~310k).
That also wasn’t technically a “Bond” movie (although I do enjoy watching it).
