The ‘99-’00 Mercury Cougar had bubbled headlamp lenses that would focus sunlight and burn slits into the black headlamp bezel as the sun would pass overhead. I believe there was a change in the bezel material to prevent this. The ‘01-’02 had a smooth lens and metalized bezel to reflect the sunlight.
