They are still used for debriding wounds in certain cases. They actually do a much better job at it than any surgery, because they don’t take healthy tissue.

they still are used for extremely complicated debridement cases, especially in cases of diabetic ulcers, because they won’t consume healthy tissue only dead.  There are a few companies which produce medically sterile maggots for use in debridement.
