It's easy to go there in these types of situations. Typically your response would have been spot on.

Meh, not so much a difficult request. The restaurant has a "rule," which the server followed. OG politely asked if an execption could be made, server involved the manager (which they would be required to do), manager made an exception. This scenario happens every day. Not really a big deal.
