The Fit is garbage (at least any that are/were above the snow belt). I’ve known multiple people with them and they all rusted out or fell apart. Absolutely garbage.

If a vehicle I purchase comes with hardware installed, I’m damn sure going to look for 3rd party solutions to access said hardware. I didn’t buy a subscription to a physical product.

Its more an issue with rail right of way ownership and land rights (I know this is an oversimplification). No one wants to risk using eminent domain for a common good.

There is a very clear single cause to this: Drivers ed is bullshit in the USA.

MA has a law on the books for ‘unsecured loads’, and considers snow and ice on your car to fall under that. You lose the snow, and cause a crash, and you’re on the hook for damages, as well as fines.

I suspect other states have similar unsecured load laws and could use that if they wanted to.
