Cost is a good point. Within a city, light rail and buses are usually pretty affordable, but commuter trains can be a beast. I used to commute from NYC to Westport, CT every day, and the train wasn’t just slower and less comfortable than driving, it was more expensive.

I grew up in Iowa, driving a Dodge Omni in rural snow and ice. It’s character-building. Your odds of dying in an icy snowball of death are barely even 1 in 3. 

Public transit would be the best way for most people to get around every city, and most suburbs and towns, if only it were good enough, both in terms of time and comfort.

Daily driver, but yes, it’s gorgeous.
