I didn’t see the film, but my feeling was that she was too young to play Lyra. She was OK for the first film, but I couldn’t have imagined her doing The Amber Spyglass without waiting a few years first.

I initially read it as Mackenzie Crook, which would have been much more interesting...

It’s not for me to tell RuPaul what to do, but the idea of excluding someone from a drag show based on their genitals seems so absurd and contradictory I can’t quite wrap my head round it.

More distracting than the range of highly recognisable character actors in it already?
I’m sure he’s busy with other things, but I’d think adding Capaldi to most movies can only be a plus.

Yeah. I’m generally a Nolan fan, but have to say I hated Insomnia. It was painfully generic. I’d say it’s only noteworthy at all for a rare villainous performance by Robin Williams, but even then, not an interesting one.

If we really must use the word ‘successful’ in this context, there have probably been a large number of ‘successful’ genocides, particularly in ancient history. There are plenty of ethnic groups that simply disappeared from the history books.

“If it’s just going to be the-same-but-live-action... I don’t see the point of it”

Oh, I understand entirely, and have felt the same way about certain foreign language movies myself. It’s a good sign that you’re completely engrossed in a movie.
What I meant was, that could be read in a more condescending way - ‘that film was so good, it was almost like an English movie’. Imagine saying of an actor,

Sometimes I wish the Oscars could always be held five years in retrospect, once we’ve had a little time and perspective to consider the merits of the films and get away from the fury of the competing campaigns. Often a great film’s greatness isn’t widely recognised until too late for the awards season.

Chariots of Fire has had a cultural legacy (particularly the score, which gets reused every Olympic season). But arguably a much smaller one than Raiders.

I mean, surely you would get more streams that way?

When everything good you’ve thrown at the wall has failed, may as well turn to the shit.

Not to mention The Matrix, Toy Story 2 and South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Yeah. I’d say at the very least The Prestige and Inception deserve a place in the canon.

Please don’t spoil King Kong for me.

I would say no, but only because Monty Python and the Holy Grail was released the same year.

I know what you mean, but there’s also something quite sad that this is the highest praise you can give a movie.

The one I hated the most in the cinema was Ang Lee’s Hulk, but I’m sure there have been far worse movies. (By reputation alone, Halle Berry’s Catwoman attempt has to be up there.)

Not sure if the irony there was intended, but that is exactly what happened to Watchmen. :(

Is it heresy to say Event Horizon is a better film than Sunshine? Because it was clear from the start exactly what kind of movie it wanted to be.
