It seems bizarre to me that this at all an issue these days. But I remember that as recently as 2005 it caused problems with the Will Smith romcom Hitch, in which apparently they deliberately avoided casting a white woman as the romantic partner, while also not wanting to cast a black woman to make it look like a

I'm not sure if Clerks 2 counts as 'good', but…

I choose to take this comment seriously and agree with it.

Likewise, Fix You and in particular Where Is The Love? are painfully clichéd songs that have been overplayed beyond belief, yet worked perfectly here because of their utter sincerity. That goes for the whole thing really: it stands as an argument for the power of joyful, uplifting pop music.

YMMV. I saw that video and liked it. Regarding Miley's banter, I guess I found it cuter than you; but I also figured she was doing it to relieve their tensions and put Ariana at ease, on what was no doubt a particularly stressful occasion for the pair of them. I still felt it was a pretty good performance of the song,

Psst - the words were projected on the back screen…
Most true Mancunians wouldn't have needed them, though.

I'd always assumed Oolon Colluphid was a pisstake of Richard Dawkins, who was a close friend of Adams', though that may be anachronistic.

You seem to be one of those people who gets a weird pleasure from forcing themselves through something they don't enjoy. I've never understood that. I mean, 'hatewatching' a bad show can be fun if you're sufficiently drunk, but 'hatereading'?

When I got round to the TV series, I felt Simon Jones was a bit too posh to be a relatable everyman. But then, it is the BBC.

Unfortunately I'm all out of ningis.

I remember trying that game several times, and I don't think I ever even made it out of Arthur's house before the Earth was destroyed. Its ridiculous difficulty rather suited the meaningless cruelty of the series.

I think the green spot thing may only be on the American editions of the books? At least, it's not on the covers of my British versions.

Whatever else the movie got wrong, I was so, so happy that they used the theme from the TV series for the title music. After that I was ready to forgive it a lot.
