The stereo in our 15 year old Honda Element had a worn out volume knob, so whether you wanted to turn the radio up or down, there was a one in four chance you were going to get the result you wanted. That gets annoying fairly quickly, so I replaced the head unit. $250 to the fine folks at Crutchfield gets a nicer…
A dozen years ago when I bought the Shoe, the original owner had installed a very expensive and worthwhile clear bra on the nose of the car. There was film on all the painted bits that were likely to get stone chipped, and there was film on the plastic headlight assemblies. I left that film in place because it was…
It’s a little dusty here in control this morning. Not sure what that might be.
I had the Clown Shoe wrapped about 5 years ago and the product life is about 5 years. So, it goes tomorrow to get the wrap removed while it’s still in good shape. I was pretty sure that there was gonna be some fuckery underneath the vinyl from the removal of the clear bra that happened before the vinyl went on, and I…
Mrs. Shoe Pilot and I took the couch apart for some LLLLOOOONNNNGGGGG overdue cleaning. It’s kind of embarrassing how badly the couch needed the cleaning that it got. I found an appointment card for a day spa that went out of business at least 18 months ago.
IndyCar was doing a test at COTA today, and they continue tomorrow. So far, they’re faster than anything except an F1 car.
Depending on whether or not you include Social Security and Medicare, our effective tax rate for 2018 was 16.9% (not including SS/MC) or 26.6% (including SS/MC). That’s (taxes paid)/(taxable income)
Mrs. Shoe Pilot buying a plug in hybrid and getting that sweet tax credit certainly isn’t hurting. The refund ought to pay off the car and then there’s some left over for something else super exciting like a contribution to a retirement account or something, though I’d much rather blow it on parts for the upcoming…
Warped All-Clad 12" Saute Pan + heat from the stove + dead blow hammer = no longer warped pan!
We received a gift for Christmas that we don’t need - a duplicate of something we already have and don’t need two of.
If you’ve got a mixing bowl full of dry ingredients, don’t just grab the switch on the Kitchenaid mixer and go full throttle.
We made a test batch before Thanksgiving. They’re pretty damn tasty.

Mrs. Shoe Pilot and I are thinking about learning. Any pilots on Oppo?
The GE Wattstation 240V EVSE that we had to charge Mrs. Shoe Pilot’s car decided to go non-linear last weekend. The device was indicating a ground fault, but there was no ground fault. I guess the circuit in the equipment that detects faults went kaput, which is just fantastic.
I made some “Trump Likes Nickelback” stickers at work last week. I was driving home from work today and I had a few stickers in the car with me. I was stopped in traffic and saw a car come up behind me. I saw the driver squint to look at my sticker, then smile real big, then grab her camera to take a picture.
They came out pretty good.
It’s a rack for holding rolls of printed vinyl as they feed into a laminating machine. The machine has a way to do this on its own, but we use that feed position for a kraft paper backing. Also, loading the workpiece from the included roll is a total PITA. The manufacturer makes a machine that has this built in, but…
