As a native New Yorker who grew up during the Trump Tower/Ivanka years, I can comfortably say that New Yorkers have always hated him.  Sure, now it's mostly about his grotesque politics, whereas back then it's just that we thought he was a tacky prick, but there's still more continuity than change.
