I thought I did, until tonight! Thanks everyone for educating me on the correct rule.

Well played.

I agree that it should be an error. But the rule states the opposite. And F you, too! :)

No. You forgot to bold the important part: leads to physical misplay. On this play, the CF simply held onto the ball too long. There was no physical misplay. By rule, it’s not an error. Though it should be.

Now playing

Here’s the same play, without an outfielder’s brain freeze!

Rule 10.12(a)(1) Comment: Slow handling of the ball that does not involve mechanical misplay shall not be construed as an error.

Or maybe — just maybe — no one wanted the distraction and bad PR of having Bonds on their team, even at the minimum? You forget how white-hot the issue was at the time.

I see what you did there.

Don’t worry. I knew that, too, and I also didn’t the joke!

To be employed by Deadspin, is it a requirement to be a steroids supporter?

Exactly. And the hypocricy of these “unwritten rules” has become extraordinary. While it is now wrong to have a small bat flip, it has become OK for your team to celebrate after a walk-off single as if you have just won the World Series.

OK — but how many other teams this year have hit eight HR’s against the Phillies?

“His 15.3-percent walk rate was the third-highest among all outfielders in the first half.”

Why is this the only stat that you present relative only to outfielders?

“The Russian roulette injury machine known as the NFL”

NFL players are now dying from injuries? Or did you create a new definition of Russian Roulette?

You REALLY think that some kids playing in the LLWS don’t care about playing baseball? You don’t get that good without caring enough to play a lot!

For some reason, Deadspin uses the terminology (and reversed verb tenses) used in soccer rather than everyday American English — which I always find to be oddly inconsistent since the sport is actually called “football” everywhere else while Deadspin still calls it “soccer.”

Sorry, dude, you’re wrong. Another replay revealed that he clearly threw his glove at the ball. That replay, however, is not included in the above embedded video.

That won’t work at all. People with two X chromosomes can develop hormonally as a male, and people with an X and a Y can develop hormonally as a female. It way more complicated than you think.

Sarah, I have never seen a group of commenters who suffer from such a lack of basic reading comprehension and poor logic skills. Your points are dead on — even though they fly in the face of what most Gawker commenters want to believe.

Men didn’t do anything to get extra testosterone either. Would you be ok with men competing in the women’s sports? The line has to be drawn somewhere.
