Patrick, be fair. There was 0% chance to turn a double play on the grounder.

Did Patrick Redford call the Royals pitchers “Surly little shits” and “Thugs”? If not, you are insane.
That problem with your comment is that you do not elaborate.
It’s a silly (and inconsistent) affectation.
Nonsense. Yankees fans have been chanting “Boston sucks!” for decades. The chant is referring to the Red Sox, obviously. Using Deadspin’s stitled grammatical convention, the chant should be “Boston suck!”
But it doesn’t make sense to use British conventions if Deadspin still calls the sport “soccer”!
“If he had sprinted, the Dodgers would have realized what was up and called time.”
It’s unlikely that the umpires would have granted time to the Dodgers if Murphy was sprinting, even after a walk. The umps would have realized that a possible play was on. However, if Murphy sprinted too early, the defense would have…
Yes, that would be as senseless as a team, after a walk-off single in June, celebrating as if they had just won the pennant.
Oh, wait a second...
This is awesome. After your pitcher throws behind a guy’s back, you all need to SHUT THE FUCK UP when that same guy hits a HR in the same AB and show you all up.

If Mattingly his smart, he starts Utley. Having Utley in the line-up will be a distraction for the Mets, and likely for Harvey. And maybe Mattingly hits the jackpot by getting Harvey ejected for throwing at Utley and/or other Dodgers.
I’m a Mets fan, so I’m acutally hoping Utley does not start because I want the Mets…
“The in-game ruling was an explicit statement that what Utley did was legal.”
Not at all. Torre explained this well. The umps made a bad call by not calling an automatic DP on Utley. That call was, unfortunately, not reviewable by replay.
You’ll be the same guy who blames his girlfriend for dressing sexy when she gets raped...
So good!
Can’t protest a judgment call, unfortunately.
This ia awesome. Thank you.
I wanted to post exactly this. Thank you!
LOLDeadspin. :)
I posted the entire rule just below. A double play can be awarded in several instances, in fact.
BTW, the “can’t assume a double play” concept only pertains to the official scorer’s duties. For example, when an infielder bobbles a ground ball on what looks like an easy double-play grounder, but the infielder only gets…
The cathcer must be in the act of fielding a batted ball in order to be protected from runner’s interference. If a catcher ever did what you describe here, the catcher will immediately be called for obstruction.
