They aren't fearful, its a fucking shield to their racism and hate.
Also, just before that:
While being tased, Price walked toward Lucas and tried to reach for the weapon, at which point the officer took out his service weapon and fired four times, according to the affidavit.
What I love about Hades is how perfectly tuned it is. I see people talk about every playstyle, every weapon, every pact as though it’s the best choice, and none of them ever seem to be wholly wrong. I’ve learned to put enough trust into Supergiant to believe that any challenge they’re willing to throw at me will be…
Oh man, and once I was up to pact heat like 7 with the bow I went back and did a 0 heat run when they released the fists or the gun and the bosses comment on how they’re less powerful :D
I’ve been waiting for this article, for I have a story to tell. It speaks of the time I made my one and only successful 32 heat run. Take into account I’ve been playing in early access since last December, and in a normal run I use around 12 heat. But I wanted the last statue, so this had to be done.
This is the first of their games I’ve played, as I heard the previous ones were all good but very niche. Hades feels like a significant step up for Supergiant, insanely high quality while also having a broader appeal.
You sometimes get some ridiculously powerful and satisfying setup of powerups that makes you an absolute powerhouse.
Hades is worth it, really. The game expect you to die at first, but it’s integrated in the story, in the dialogues, etc. They’re not useless, punishing deaths. The game tries to give you runs so you can…
I highly recommend it. I’m awful at roguelikes. I love Hades.
I hate, HATE, rogue-likes specifically for their focus on difficulty and mastery. But I have to say that the first several paragraphs kind of sold me on the game. I don’t want a game to expect me to “get good” in order to get some kind of enjoyment out of my leisure time, so a game that gives you a steady stream of…
My favorite little detail was in fighting Theseus and the Minotaur, and Theseus pointed out that I had the item Yarn of Ariadne that I picked up from the Well of Charon. Apparently, that was the yarn that he used in the maze when he fought the Minotaur.
in my numerous battles against one particular boss, the pre-battle chatter has referenced the outcome of the previous battle a handful of times, which is also nice.
My favorite detail is that after like 40 runs Zagreus decided he was going to use a nickname for a boss, and thereafter the game uses that nickname for it in all the UI
I really want to read this review, but I think I’ll wait until I’ve completed a few more runs so I don’t spoil my ending.
I’m surprised that with the number of articles devoted to this game by this site, the absolutely sublime combat gameplay still manages to get short shrift (i’m avoiding the spoilers, so apologies if you hid something appropriately gushy there). It gets a little bit of attention, but
That gets even better: if you have his butterfly and Thanatos shows up in one of the rooms, he’ll notice and say “stay back and let me handle this and you’ll get a boost”.
re: the detail, there are so many great examples, but one of my favorite examples is a very simple one. I took Thanatos’s Butterfly with me on a run through Tartarus once. That keepsake gives you a permanent boost to damage for every room you can clear without taking damage, so I was dashing around my third easy room…
In the extremely extremely underrated movie Everybody Wants Some!, the protagonist talks about his college application essay, about Sisyphus. That, while most people look at Sisyphus as being cursed, in actuality it was a blessing, because the gods gave Sisyphus something: a purpose. It might be a futile purpose, but…
Probably the best thing about Hades is its insane attention to detail. Characters will comment on what boons you’ve picked up, the weapon and aspect you’re currently using, how quickly you completed your last run, what sidequest you’re doing or House upgrade you’ve bought, even details you’ve found by reading the…
