There’s a documentary on Hulu about Steven Stayner and his family called Captive Audience.

This is a story about real-world, human horror. Sorry it’s a bit long, but a lot happened, and it’s all true, sadly.

Did we ever find out why The Photo is scary?

  • Your story must be true. ... .

Yeah, that one was so messed.

For me, nothing’ll top the story about the soldiers and the djinn!

Thanks, that was mine :). When I saw my story was one of the ones selected, I posted the link to this year’s Spooky Stories on my FB page and teased friends (many of whom hung out and did sleep overs at that house) to figure out which one was mine, because I didn’t share that experience with friends back then (I knew

The scariest story of all was how the readers of Jezebel’s annual scary story contest totally overreacted to the post being in a different format because they can’t handle change! Chilling.

A few good picks in the round-up this year, I’d have to say my favorite of these 10 are The Window and Beach Town. The latter, if

Don’t remember seeing the links to all of the older ones earlier but they’re missing a few of the earlier ones.

“True”

I might have to give up my doctorate because I couldn’t tell what was going on with the photo or how it related to where he was sleeping in the house.  I’m relieved I’m not the only one confused.

I also don’t understand that one.

Since some of you may have missed the original post asking for submissions (they didn’t seem to advertise it as well this year), you can find the original post with ALL of the stories in the comments at: https://jezebel.com/scary-story-contest-submissions-2022-1849609558

It definitely has felt a bit like Jezebel has, in many ways, been kinda half-assing this most sacred tradition this year... *sad trombone*

I’m confused by The Photo. It seems like he butt photographed the window? Am I missing something?

I’ve not wanted to be too hard on Jezebel since the big staff turnover, but, well, this assemblage of stories is markedly worse, in terms of selection, than any previous year. I think most years at least one story is going to be creepypasta, but not so overtly as the two (at least) I caught here! The story about the

My favourite was the college girl who was given a lift by the seemingly kind, but insistent, good looking driver (even though she had her bike with her). His sudden, shocking change of attitude and unknown motive were the spooky part. What was with that guy, and why did he seem to change his mind and drop her off

One time I wanted to read the spooky stories contest on a popular website but the editors chose to format it as a slide show for some reason and it was so scary I left.

Glad you are here to tell the tale! And thank goodness for parents who are such jerks and just don’t understand! ;)
