I've always thought that trying to do Dune in one two hour movie was as insane as trying to do Lord of the Rings into one two hour movie. This isn't the same as making it accessible and I believe it can, it's just such a massive book. And Dune is just the first one.

They ran out of money making it so they just ended it. Amazingly, it makes the film.

The EU has always been an important part of the SW verse. Why they would dismiss is, I don't get. They could easily work stories around the canon already set. Anyone who thinks throwing the EU out is a good idea should never be able to utter the name "Boba Fett".
