The short-story's non-ending was much better.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. You've been in this medieval setting pretty much the whole time and think you're at the climax of the story with a battle brewing, when the modern day police show up and arrest King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and the movie is just over. It's delightfully non-sequitury.

As long as their plan makes sense, I love it when the villain is already two steps ahead of the protagonists.

Still listed as "Script" phase on IMDBPro, so who knows where it's at. Raising money for films is really tough these days, and it's a hard sell when recent SciFi epics like 'Oblivion' and especially 'Elysium' (which was Gibson-esque in places) underperformed at the box office.

I caught Solaris (the Soderbergh one) on TV the other night and it's still stunning. Solaris itself is just incredible to see, it's like a giant Windows Media Player visualisation in space. I don't mean that in a bad way.
